Safety & Community Standards
Anonymity should empower honest self-expression and connection, not harmful behavior. Discover our multi-layered approach to maintaining a safe, respectful community.
Our Core Safety Principles
Unlike anonymous message tools that allow anyone to flood private inboxes with unverified burner accounts, Dear Whoever is architected from the ground up to prevent digital harassment:
Posting notes requires verified Google SSO. While discoverers only see "Someone" if you toggle anonymity, our backend maintains verified account ownership to prevent malicious bot networks.
To protect privacy, distant note locations (>150m) are mathematically obfuscated on the server. Exact pin locations are revealed only to nearby users.
Strictly Prohibited Behavior
We enforce an absolute zero-tolerance policy for the following behaviors. Accounts violating these rules are permanently suspended:
- Harassment & Bullying: Targeted abuse, insults, intimidation, or hate speech against any individual or group.
- Personal Information & Doxxing: Revealing phone numbers, home addresses, private photos, or identities of others.
- Threats & Violence: Any promotion, encouragement, or threat of self-harm, physical violence, or illegal activity.
- Commercial Spam & Scams: Unsolicited advertisements, affiliate links, phishing, or crypto promotions.
1-Tap In-App Reporting
Every message card in Dear Whoever includes a prominent Report button. If you encounter any note that violates community guidelines:
- Tap the Report icon on the message details card.
- Select the applicable violation category (e.g. Harassment, Hate Speech, Doxxing, Spam).
- Submit the report. The note is queued immediately for administrative review. Messages with multiple flags are automatically suppressed from discovery.
